Some Volkswagen models were equipped with brake pad wear sensors, while others were not. However, vehicles with and without this option use the same brake pad part number.
Because many aftermarket brake pad manufacturers produce pads that fit both applications, some pads may include a built-in wear sensor even if your vehicle does not have the wiring or option for one. If your vehicle is not equipped with a brake pad wear sensor, the included sensor will not affect pad installation or performance.
For vehicles without the wear sensor option, the unused sensor can be secured out of the way or removed if needed. For vehicles equipped with the option, simply connect the sensor during installation.
Volkswagen does not use separate brake pad part numbers for sensor-equipped and non-sensor-equipped applications, which is why manufacturers design these pads to accommodate both configurations.
